Primary Health Care Receives $1 Million in Opioid Settlement Funds to Expand Services for Individuals with Substance Use Disorders

Des Moines, IA — Primary Health Care (PHC) is honored to announce the receipt of nearly $1,000,000 in opioid settlement funds allocated by Polk County over the next two years. These funds, approved by the Polk County Board of Supervisors on June 18, 2024, will be instrumental in enhancing PHC’s capacity to provide comprehensive care for individuals affected by substance use disorders, with a particular focus on opioid use disorder.

This funding will enable PHC to expand our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services and integrate peer recovery support into our programs. These enhancements are crucial steps toward addressing the opioid epidemic’s devastating impact on our community.

“We are grateful for Polk County’s continued support and their recognition of the essential role PHC plays in providing integrated healthcare services to those struggling with substance use disorders,” said Kelly Huntsman, CEO at PHC. “This funding will allow us to not only broaden access to evidence-based treatments like MAT but also to offer vital peer support services that foster long-term recovery.”

PHC is committed to utilizing these funds to create immediate and lasting positive impacts for individuals and families affected by the opioid crisis, in alignment with the goals of the opioid settlement agreements.
