Welcome to Primary Health Care’s East Side Clinic—your trusted partner in health for East Des Moines and surrounding communities. Our clinic provides primary care, internal medicine, behavioral health services, maternal health, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) for adults and families in a safe, welcoming environment.

We accept Medicaid, Medicare, most private insurance, and uninsured patients. No one is turned away for inability to pay.

Our Services

  • Primary Care: Routine checkups, preventive care, immunizations, and treatment for common illnesses and injuries for all ages.
  • Internal Medicine: Comprehensive care for adults, including chronic disease management (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and asthma), health screenings, and specialty referrals.
  • Behavioral Health: Counseling, therapy, and mental health support for individuals and families.
  • Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT): Evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder, in a supportive, stigma-free setting.

Not a Free Clinic, But Affordable for All

While Primary Health Care’s East Side Clinic is not a free clinic, we are committed to making care affordable and accessible. We accept Medicaid, Medicare, most private insurance, and offer a sliding fee scale for those without insurance. No one is turned away for inability to pay.

Primary Health Care (PHC) will not turn a patient away, regardless of ability to pay. PHC accepts most insurance plans. We have dedicated staff that will assist patients with the enrollment process. If you would like help enrolling in Medicaid or other insurance, please ask to speak to a health benefits specialist.

Internal Medicine Residency Program

In 2013, PHC partnered with Mercy’s Internal Medicine Residency program through the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) program. This partnership provides a rich educational experience working with a diverse patient population. Residents see patients at the PHC East Side Clinic, located at 3509 E. 29th St. in Des Moines.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Receive specialized training in outpatient medicine, preventive care, and patient-centered communication.
  • Benefit from mentorship and guidance from experienced primary care clinicians.
  • Participate in community outreach and health promotion initiatives.
