Jennifer Groos, MD, FAAP, is a highly skilled and board-certified pediatrician with over 16 years of expertise. She is a valued member of our team at BEC Medical, dedicated to providing exceptional care for children and families.
Dr. Groos obtained her medical degree from the prestigious University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed her residency in pediatrics at the renowned University of Wisconsin Children’s Hospital in Madison, WI. Her extensive training has equipped her with comprehensive knowledge and clinical proficiency in pediatric medicine.
During her tenure at Blank Children’s Hospital, Dr. Groos demonstrated her passion for child health by founding the innovative Healthy Kids Program. Now, she brings her invaluable experience and expertise to Primary Health Care at the BEC clinic, where she will be available to serve the community starting this summer.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Groos actively engages in community and legislative advocacy on important topics like healthy eating and active living. She plays a crucial role as the Lead Faculty for the National Childhood Obesity in Primary Care (COPC) Quality Improvement project, led by the prestigious American Academy of Pediatrics Institute on Healthy Childhood Weight (IHCW).
Moreover, Dr. Groos leads the 5-2-1-0 Health Care Program in Iowa, demonstrating her commitment to promoting optimal health habits among children. As the co-chair for the COACH network (childhood obesity advisor) within the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Obesity, she actively contributes to shaping policies and initiatives related to childhood obesity.
Dr. Groos’s remarkable dedication to pediatric healthcare extends beyond her clinical and advocacy roles. She served as the past-president of the Iowa Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and chair of the chapter committee on legislation. Additionally, she founded and chairs the chapter committee on obesity, further highlighting her commitment to addressing this critical health issue.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Dr. Groos received the prestigious Iowa Medical Society Physician Community Service Award in 2018. This esteemed honor acknowledged her statewide efforts to promote child health and well-being.
