Five Tips for Managing Your Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes can feel complicated to manage. Our team came up with a few tips to help you think of some easy lifestyle changes you can make to help manage your diagnosis.

Increase your physical activity.

You don’t have to become a marathon runner to have a healthy level of physical activity. Start with a  30-minute walk before or after work or try some easy yoga poses using this tutorial.

Find a healthy alternative to your favorite treat.

Love ice cream on a hot summer day? Blend frozen bananas, peanut butter and almond milk to make Banana Nice Cream. Trust us, you won’t believe it’s not ice cream.

Eat less pre-packaged food and more fresh fruits and vegetables.

Leafy greens, beans, sweet potatoes berries and nuts are all diabetes superfoods and can help you manage your diagnoses. Check out these meal planning tips from the American Diabetes Association.

Join a support group or find someone to talk to.

Don’t try to manage your disease on your own. Find a local support group to connect with people who also have diabetes.

Maintain a healthy body weight.

If you need to lose weight, try an app to record what you eat and how much. This strategy will help you see where you can change your current habits to help manage your diabetes.

Please note that none of these tips constitute official medical advice or an alternative to managing your diabetes with prescribed medication. If you have questions please speak with your health care provider.
