Meet Primary Health Care co-medical director, Whitney Ceretti, PA-C. Ceretti is a primary care provider and has been with PHC for four years. She practices in Ames.

In addition to primary care, diabetes (both type 1 and type 2) is a particular area of interest to her, as she’s lived with type 1 diabetes since she was five years old. Her own lived experience gives her a unique perspective on the management of this chronic disease.

For patients with type 1 diabetes, Ceretti is particularly passionate about insulin dosing with injections or pumps as well as Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) interpretations.

For patients with type 2 diabetes, she focuses on the metabolic dysfunctions of the individual patient. This refers to the abnormal chemical reactions that interfere with the body’s normal processes. After identifying metabolic dysfunctions, she empowers  her patients with the knowledge of how medication and lifestyle changes can improve their overall quality of life as well as long term health outcomes.

Ceretti shared, “Too often patients are made to feel ashamed of their disease, like it is something they caused. I make sure patients understand it is not their fault, but they do have the power to make changes to help in the management and outcome of their diabetes care.”

Ceretti’s favorite part of being a clinician with PHC is the connection she has with her patients, stating, “Working with patients on their health and personal goals, as well as getting to know them gives me such joy. I am honored to be a part of their lives, whether it’s supporting them through hard times or helping them celebrate their successes!”
