December 1 is World AIDS Day. Raising awareness about HIV and AIDS is key to breaking stigma, encouraging testing, and ensuring access to care. At Primary Health Care, we’re proud to support the community with specialized HIV prevention and care services through our program, The Project, located at our University Avenue building.
Why It’s Important
HIV remains a significant public health issue, but with the right information and resources, it can be managed effectively. Early testing and treatment help people living with HIV live long, healthy lives while also reducing the risk of transmission. Awareness is the first step toward prevention and care.
What to Expect
Understanding HIV and AIDS is an essential part of taking control of your health. Here’s what you need to know:
- HIV Testing and Prevention: Regular testing is the only way to know your status. Preventive measures, like using protection and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), can greatly reduce the risk of contracting HIV.
- Treatment: People living with HIV can lead healthy lives with antiretroviral therapy (ART), which suppresses the virus and keeps the immune system strong.
- Breaking Stigma: Open conversations about HIV help reduce stigma and encourage more people to seek testing and treatment.
PHC Services: The Project
The Project at Primary Health Care provides confidential, sex-positive, and supportive services for HIV prevention, care, and education. Located at our University Avenue building, The Project offers:
- Free HIV and STI testing for those who qualify.
- Access to PrEP and other preventive services.
- Ongoing medical care and support for people living with HIV.
- Case management and assistance navigating health resources.
- We’re committed to helping everyone take charge of their sexual health in a safe, welcoming environment.
Take Charge of Your Health
HIV awareness starts with understanding your own health and knowing the resources available to you. Whether you’re looking for prevention tools, testing, or ongoing care, Primary Health Care’s The Project is here to support you every step of the way.
